Digitalocean vs. Vultr vs. Linode A guide that help you choose best do it yourself hosting.
DIY VPS hosting is for those who want to spend not-much but concerned about performance and knows it’s one solid thing in order to make your business successful. This section of people do have WordPress Experience are often are bootstrap startups.
Our concern is installing WordPress with following Hostings, so we are kind of biased here.
The most common VPS hosting are the following three.
A small VPS from DigitalOcean starts at $5 a month and the popular plan at ServerPilot starts at $10 a month. So depending on your setup you could be looking at a cost of between $5 to $15 or more a month. The DIY approach can definitely cut costs, but it also means that you are responsible if something breaks, and for optimizing your server for performance. The DIY approach can be great, but it can also backfire on you if you aren’t careful. Don’t go this route just because you want to tinker! Your time is worth money and you should be spending it on growing your business.
The Ease (Installing WordPress)
DigitalOcean Provides One-Click WordPress Install, also you can use ServerPilot to install WordPress on a DigitalOcean Droplet. It provides separate IP address for each Droplet (they call it).
Both DigitalOcean and Vultr provides One-click app installs with supports a variety of Servers. Install WordPress on Linode can be complex for some users | Guide
DigitalOcean: Debit/Credit Card and Paypal while Vultr support Credit card, Paypal and Bitcoin, the Linode only accept Credit card. So if you’ve got a secured by VISA debit card, it won’t work at all. Though, Paypal can be a alternative for first 2 mentions.
Earn by Referring
If you refer someone to the DigitalOcean and once they’ve spend $25, you get $25 on your account balance (can be used in billing), Vultr gives about $10 per referral, Linode offer $20 for each person who use their hosting for at least 90 days after signing up using a referral link.
Though, this is more a do it yourself stuff, so you’re responsible if anything goes wrong with your hosting or WordPress site. Support level is limited and you can not ask the support team to look-into your WordPress site and ask for doing a task such as installing a SSL or removing the initial password. But apart from that, they assist very well with General queries, DNS issues, Payment, etc.
Comparing the Cheapest Plan
Digitalocean: $5 – 1 CPU – 1024MB RAM
Vultr : $5 – 1 CPU – 1024MB RAM
Linode: The cheapest plan is at $10 – 1 CPU – 2GB RAM
The pricing is about the same, but your concern should be CPU and RAM.
- DigitalOcean: I turns out even this is a Do it yourself VPS hosting, but they have made it even easier for someone with a little knowledge.
- Vultr: It features the same and at some points it’s same as Digitalocean.
- Linode: I’m not sure i can say the same for this hosting.
I’d recommend the DigitalOcean, and if you click on this link and signup you get $10 in your account so you start hosting your website for free and guess what if you make a $5 droplet that will be enough to run your site for 2 months, for free.
Take DigitalOcean VPS hosting (Free 2 month)
Try Vultr or Linode
So far if you can spend a little time setting servers, (though it won’t take more than few minutes). If you’re looking aren’t short handed at money, you could try a Managed Hosting and they will take care of your site, from installing WordPress to do anything you would like.
